Limit your impact
While the manufacturing of hardware on which models are developed and deployed may cause much larger CO2e emissions, users have more agency when it comes to influencing the CO2e emissions by changing software and software use.
Our main call for action is to encourage the HCI community to report their carbon footprint when doing research with GenAI, or at least to report indicators used to calculate this (i.e. model, usage, and test runs and interactions for GenAI research involving prototypes or user tests).
